The opening race of the weekend carried added significance for drivers and teams as Supercars arrived at Ruapuna Raceway for the first-ever championship event held in New Zealand’s South Island. Excitement had been building throughout the week as fans packed the circuit, eager to witness a historic moment for the championship.

Matt Payne had entered the race as one of the favourites after showing strong pace throughout practice and qualifying, while Brodie Kostecki continued carrying momentum from previous rounds. However, Allen quickly placed himself into contention and looked increasingly comfortable as the race developed.

As the lights went out, the field launched cleanly and immediately entered an intense battle into the opening sequence of corners. Drivers fought aggressively for track position, knowing overtaking opportunities around Ruapuna could quickly become difficult.

Allen steadily worked his way into a strong position and remained calm while several experienced drivers battled around him. Through pit strategy and consistent pace, Penrite Racing made crucial decisions that placed Allen in control at the perfect moment. As rivals attempted different approaches and searched for opportunities, Allen continued delivering fast and mistake-free laps.

The closing stages brought enormous pressure as Brodie Kostecki began charging toward the front and reduced the margin with every lap. The championship contender repeatedly pushed hard, attempting to place Allen under pressure as the young driver searched for the biggest result of his career.

Despite the attention from behind, Allen never looked unsettled. His lap times remained strong and his racecraft proved beyond his years as he guided the car through the final laps.

Crossing the line first, Allen secured not only his first Supercars victory, but also became the 89th different race winner in championship history. The achievement represented an unforgettable moment for the young driver and added another memorable chapter to Supercars’ first visit to Christchurch.
