Kostecki Opens Melbourne Campaign With Dominant Victory

Brodie Kostecki has launched his 2026 Melbourne SuperSprint campaign in commanding fashion after converting pole position into victory at Albert Park, immediately establishing himself as the benchmark driver of the weekend. The Dick Johnson Racing driver entered Melbourne carrying strong form and wasted no time showing both his speed and confidence around one of the fastest temporary circuits on the Supercars calendar.

As the lights went out, Kostecki made an excellent start and controlled the run into Turn One, quickly settling into a comfortable rhythm at the front of the field. While Kostecki focused on building an early advantage, the action behind him immediately intensified as several drivers battled aggressively for track position through the opening sector.

Matt Payne looked determined from the beginning and immediately placed pressure on Broc Feeney as the pair traded positions throughout the opening laps. The fight behind the leader allowed Kostecki to create a small but valuable gap at the front of the field. Albert Park’s high-speed layout rewards confidence and commitment, and Kostecki looked completely comfortable as he attacked the sweeping corners.

Early drama soon unfolded further down the order as contact between several cars brought out the safety car. The interruption erased Kostecki’s hard-earned advantage and immediately created an opportunity for the chasing drivers.

When racing resumed, Kostecki handled the restart perfectly. He quickly pulled away and once again demonstrated strong pace through the technical sections of the circuit. Payne emerged as the closest challenger and continued reducing the margin during the latter stages of the race, but Kostecki remained composed and avoided mistakes.

Speaking after the race, Kostecki praised his team's efforts and highlighted the car balance as one of the biggest strengths throughout the session.

The result not only delivered an important victory but also sent a strong message to the rest of the field. With multiple races still remaining during the Melbourne SuperSprint weekend, rivals now face a major challenge if they hope to stop Kostecki's early momentum.
