In front of a passionate crowd at Goiania, Marc Marquez finally opened his Sprint account for 2026 after overcoming an early deficit to defeat Fabio Di Giannantonio in one of the closest finishes of the season.

Starting from pole position, Di Giannantonio wasted no time converting his advantage into track position. The VR46 Ducati rider launched cleanly and immediately created breathing room while chaos unfolded behind him.

Fabio Quartararo became the early surprise.

The Yamaha rider exploded off the line and climbed through the opening corners with confidence, attacking for podium positions and temporarily disrupting the expected battle between Ducati and Aprilia.

Marc Marquez, however, remained calm.

After losing ground in the opening laps, the reigning World Champion slowly rebuilt momentum and began methodically working his way back toward the lead. As tyre performance settled and the race entered its middle phase, the Ducati rider started reducing the margin one lap at a time.

Behind them, another story was developing.

Jorge Martin continued his return to full fitness and delivered one of his strongest performances since joining Aprilia. After moving ahead of teammate Marco Bezzecchi, Martin settled into race rhythm and positioned himself firmly inside the podium battle.

Further back, Ai Ogura impressed again with another composed ride, while Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia traded positions in a tense fight that carried championship implications.

At the front, everything came down to timing.

With only a handful of laps remaining, Marquez finally reached Di Giannantonio’s rear wheel and immediately launched the attack. The decisive move came under braking late in the lap, giving the #93 control of the Sprint.

But the race wasn’t over.

Di Giannantonio remained attached to the Ducati ahead and entered the final lap with one last opportunity. Corner after corner he searched for an opening, waiting for even the smallest mistake.

That moment nearly arrived.

Marquez suffered a twitch at the final corner, but recovered instantly and held enough momentum to cross the line and secure victory by only a fraction.

Di Giannantonio settled for second after a standout performance, while Martin completed an emotional return to the podium and delivered his first top-three finish in Aprilia colours.

Brazil waited years for MotoGP’s return and it delivered from lap one.
