Marc Marquez completed a championship comeback at Misano, claiming his 78th MotoGP victory and moving level with Jorge Martin at the top of the 2026 standings following a San Marino Grand Prix.

The Ducati Lenovo rider capitalised on an early crash for Marco Bezzecchi, who had started strongly and defended the lead through the opening corners. However, the Aprilia rider’s home-race hopes disappeared at Turn 13 when he lost the front and crashed out on the opening lap.

Bezzecchi’s mistake handed the lead to Marquez, with Martin settling into second and remaining within half a second of his title rival. Behind them, Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez fought over third before the younger Marquez broke clear and began closing on the leading pair.

Martin made his move at Turn 4 on Lap 7, diving underneath Marquez to take control of the race. Rather than responding immediately, the reigning World Champion remained patient and gradually recovered the lost ground.

Marquez increased his pace across the following laps before reclaiming the lead at Turn 6 on Lap 12. Once ahead, the #93 quickly opened a small advantage, while Alex Marquez continued his charge and passed Martin for second two laps later.

Martin’s race then began to unravel as Acosta swept through at Turn 8 on Lap 16, removing the Aprilia rider from the podium positions. Fermin Aldeguer soon followed with another move at Turn 6, dropping Martin to fifth and placing Marquez level with him in the championship standings.

Alex Marquez refused to allow his older brother an easy run to the chequered flag. Riding Gresini’s special Marco Simoncelli tribute livery, he reduced the margin to half a second during the final five laps. Acosta also remained close in third, but neither rider could launch a decisive attack.

Marquez kept his composure to secure victory and complete another perfect weekend after winning Saturday’s Sprint. Alex Marquez finished an impressive second from ninth on the grid, while Acosta claimed his second consecutive Grand Prix podium.

Aldeguer finished fourth ahead of Martin, with Raul Fernandez, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Enea Bastianini, Luca Marini and Fabio Quartararo completing the top ten. Francesco Bagnaia endured another disappointing weekend after crashing out of his home Grand Prix.

Having trailed by 102 points seven rounds earlier, Marquez will arrive in Austria as the championship leader. Although tied with Martin on points, his stunning turnaround has reshaped the title fight.
