Murray set for PremiAir switch as Fraser exits

PremiAir Racing is set to make a major change to its Supercars driver line-up, with Cooper Murray replacing Declan Fraser from the Gold Coast 500 as the team looks ahead to the final rounds of 2026 and next season.

The switch follows a difficult campaign for Fraser, who was informed of the decision during the Bathurst 1000 weekend. He will not complete the current season with PremiAir, which has turned to Murray to take over the team’s Chevrolet Camaro for the last three events.

Murray’s move represents a significant opportunity for the young driver. He is currently racing with Erebus Motorsport and is expected to join PremiAir for a full-time campaign in 2027. The Gold Coast 500 will provide his first chance to settle into the new team.

The change also creates a vacancy at Erebus. Endurance co-driver Jarrod Hughes is expected to step into the team’s #99 Camaro for the remainder of this year and continue in the role next season. The reshuffle would keep Murray and Hughes in full-time seats while giving each team a revised driver pairing for the closing rounds.

For PremiAir, the decision marks the second consecutive season in which it has made an early driver change. The team replaced Richie Stanaway with Jayden Ojeda ahead of the 2025 Sandown 500, and Ojeda remained with the squad into 2026. That history adds context to Fraser’s departure, while underlining the pressure drivers face when results fall short of expectations.

Murray’s promotion also reflects a pathway that has previously worked for Erebus. The team has helped drivers including Brodie Kostecki, Will Brown and Jobe Stewart progress from co-driver roles into full-time Supercars opportunities. Murray now appears set to take a similar step, although this time his next opportunity will come with PremiAir.

With only three rounds remaining in the current championship, Murray will have little time to adapt. The Gold Coast street circuit will be his first test in the Camaro, followed by the final events of the season. His immediate focus will be learning the car, working with the crew and building momentum towards 2027.

The late-season move gives PremiAir a chance to assess its future line-up in competition, while Murray gains valuable preparation for a full-time campaign. Fraser’s exit brings an abrupt end to his second season with the team, and the coming rounds will reveal how quickly the new pairing can find its rhythm.

One-sentence summary: Cooper Murray is set to replace Declan Fraser at PremiAir Racing from the Gold Coast 500, with Jarrod Hughes expected to step into Murray’s Erebus seat.
