MotoGP Set to Ignite Adelaide Streets from 2027 in Historic First

MotoGP has confirmed a groundbreaking move for Australian motorsport, announcing that the Australian Grand Prix will relocate to the Adelaide Street Circuit from 2027. The six-year agreement will see the world championship race through the heart of South Australia’s capital until at least 2032, marking the first time in MotoGP history that a Grand Prix will be staged on a purpose-built city-centre street circuit.

The landmark announcement was made by MotoGP’s Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta alongside South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, unveiling a bold vision for the sport’s future in Australia. The inaugural Adelaide MotoGP event is scheduled for November 2027 and will run across three days of high-octane action.

The new circuit will measure approximately 4.195 kilometres and feature 18 corners woven through Adelaide’s city streets. Riders are expected to exceed speeds of 340 km/h along the fastest sections, delivering a dramatic spectacle against the backdrop of the city skyline. The layout draws inspiration from the historic Adelaide Street Circuit that famously hosted Formula 1 between 1985 and 1995, though it has been significantly redesigned to meet modern MotoGP safety standards.

Safety has been central to the project’s development, with MotoGP and the FIM ensuring that every element of the circuit complies with the uncompromised requirements of contemporary premier-class racing. Extensive engineering solutions have been implemented to allow riders to compete at full intensity while maintaining the highest levels of protection.

Beyond the racing itself, the Adelaide event is set to adopt a festival-style atmosphere, leveraging the city’s proven reputation for hosting world-class sporting spectacles. Organisers believe the move will elevate the fan experience, bringing spectators closer to the action than ever before and transforming the Grand Prix into a city-wide celebration.

For South Australia, the event represents more than motorsport. The government has positioned MotoGP as a strategic investment designed to drive tourism, create jobs and boost economic activity. With MotoGP enjoying strong global growth, Adelaide’s inclusion on the calendar signals a new era for Australian motorcycle racing.

More details surrounding the event schedule and ticketing are expected to be released in the coming months as preparations begin for this historic new chapter.
