Martin Returns to Victory Lane as Texas Sprint Descends Into Chaos

MotoGP’s Sprint format delivered another unforgettable chapter at Circuit of the Americas as Jorge Martin claimed a dramatic victory in a race that seemed determined to rewrite itself every few laps.

What started as a controlled performance from Francesco Bagnaia became a race of crashes, penalties and changing fortunes before ending with Martin celebrating his first Sprint victory since 2024 and his first wearing Aprilia colours.

The opening moments immediately created pressure.

Pedro Acosta launched aggressively off the line and looked ready to challenge, but Bagnaia judged the run into Turn 1 perfectly and emerged with the lead. Behind him, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marc Marquez immediately became involved in one of the race’s defining moments.

Marquez attacked.

The move didn’t work.

Attempting to force his way through, the reigning World Champion lost the front and collected Di Giannantonio in the process, eliminating both riders and ending what had looked like another podium opportunity. The incident also carried consequences beyond Saturday, leaving Marquez with a Long Lap penalty for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

While the front regrouped, Bagnaia began building a comfortable advantage.

Behind him, the battle exploded.

Joan Mir found pace, Acosta stayed aggressive, and the Aprilia pairing of Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi slowly moved forward. Martin looked composed, but Bezzecchi appeared to have stronger outright speed and eventually moved ahead of his teammate.

Then everything changed again.

With only three laps remaining, Bezzecchi lost control under braking and crashed out while running second, ending another promising Sprint and opening the door for Martin.

Suddenly, Bagnaia’s lead disappeared.

Martin sensed the opportunity and immediately began reducing the margin. Corner after corner, the Aprilia rider closed in until the final lap became inevitable.

The move finally came at Turn 12.

Late on the brakes and fully committed, Martin attacked Bagnaia and forced his way into the lead. The Ducati rider had no answer.

Martin controlled the final corners and crossed the line to secure an emotional victory that completed his return to the front of MotoGP.

Behind him, Bagnaia finished second while Pedro Acosta initially completed the podium before a tyre pressure penalty promoted Enea Bastianini into third.

The celebrations nearly ended badly when Martin crashed during his post-race wheelie, but fortunately walked away unharmed.

Texas promised entertainment.
