Alex Marquez Delivers at Home as Jerez Ends Bezzecchi’s Run and Marc’s Charge

The Spanish Grand Prix delivered emotion, heartbreak and a new winner as Alex Marquez conquered Jerez for the second year in succession in front of a packed home crowd.

After weeks of Aprilia domination and Marco Bezzecchi rewriting the record books, Sunday belonged to the Gresini rider and it happened after one of the race’s biggest contenders disappeared almost immediately.

The opening lap delivered intensity from the first corner.

Marc Marquez launched perfectly from pole position and initially looked ready to repeat Saturday’s heroics. Bezzecchi responded immediately with a brilliant getaway from the second row, while Alex Marquez made rapid progress and inserted himself directly into the fight.

The move that changed the race came quickly.

Alex attacked decisively and moved ahead of his older brother to take control at the front. The crowd erupted, but the bigger moment was still coming.

Only a lap later, disaster struck.

Marc Marquez lost the front and crashed out at Turn 11 while trying to stay attached to the lead battle. In an instant, the reigning champion’s race was over and another major hit landed in his title campaign.

With Marc gone, the race settled into a different rhythm.

Alex immediately began building an advantage while Bezzecchi focused on limiting damage and preserving points. Behind them, Fabio Di Giannantonio quietly built momentum and moved himself into podium contention after passing Jorge Martin.

Further back, Pedro Acosta’s afternoon became complicated after early contact damaged his machine and forced him backward through the field.

Then more trouble arrived for Ducati.

Francesco Bagnaia unexpectedly retired mid-race, leaving the factory garage without either rider in contention and turning Jerez into one of their most difficult weekends of the season.

At the front, however, Alex never looked under pressure.

Lap after lap he controlled the gap, managed the tyres and kept Bezzecchi outside attacking range.

By the final laps, victory looked inevitable.

Crossing the finish line to the roar of the home crowd, Alex Marquez secured consecutive Spanish Grand Prix victories and delivered one of the strongest performances of his MotoGP career.

Bezzecchi’s remarkable Sunday winning streak finally came to an end, but second place strengthened his championship position once again.

Di Giannantonio completed the podium and continued his impressive rise in 2026.

Jerez belonged to Alex and MotoGP’s title fight just became a lot more interesting.
