Team 18 Named Chevrolet's New Homologation Team in Supercars

Team 18 has officially been appointed as the new homologation team for Chevrolet Racing in the Supercars Championship, following General Motors' announcement of a strategic alliance with its affiliated teams. This move comes in the wake of Triple Eight Race Engineering’s high-profile switch to Ford for the 2026 season, leaving the homologation role vacant for GM and Chevrolet within the category.

Led by team owner Charlie Schwerkolt, Team 18 will now serve as the technical lead for Chevrolet's Gen3 Camaro platform. The Melbourne-based squad, which has run General Motors vehicles since 2015 and operated a two-car program since 2020, was selected over PremiAir Racing in what became a competitive bid for the role. The team’s growing engineering strength—featuring industry veterans Adrian Burgess, Dr Geoff Slater, Richard Hollway, Som Sharma, and Andrew Donnelly—proved pivotal in securing the position.

The announcement was accompanied by the formation of a broader alliance between General Motors Motorsports, GM Australia & New Zealand, and all Chevrolet-aligned Supercars teams. GM has reiterated its commitment to transparency and shared technical development across the grid, with the goal of enhancing the Camaro’s competitiveness and ensuring parity throughout the field.

“Today marks an exciting new chapter for Team 18 Racing,” said Schwerkolt. “We’re honoured to step into this leadership role and work alongside GM and our fellow Chevy teams to push the Camaro to the front.”

Eric Warren, GM’s Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition, reinforced the brand’s global motorsport ambitions: “Our motorsport efforts are rooted in innovation, fan passion, and winning. We’re excited to partner with Team 18 and all Chevrolet teams to bring that spirit to Supercars.”

GM has already taken key steps to stabilise its Supercars presence, including appointing KRE Race Engines as its engine supplier and securing former Triple Eight technical director Jeromy Moore. The alliance will also open pathways for technical exchange with GM’s global programs, including potential opportunities in NASCAR.

Jess Bala, GM Australia & New Zealand Managing Director, added that the move reinforces GM’s long-standing presence in Australasian motorsport. “We’re proud of our Supercars heritage, and we’re excited to grow the Chevrolet brand even further with this new alliance.”

Chevrolet’s presence in Supercars now includes Team 18, Erebus Motorsport, Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, and Brad Jones Racing, ensuring a strong foundation for the next phase of competition.
